Hello EVeryone,

I've been naturalised as a British citizen today. My child was born in South Africa on 18th March 2016 earlier this year. Mother is South African and both baby and mother are in South Africa.

Does he qualify as a British citizen straightaway or do we need to apply for his naturalisation.

Thanks,
Mohsin

No, your child is not British and does not have any claim to apply to be British either as child was born before you became British.

Children born overseas have the same status as the les-privileged parent.

The child will have the same UK immigration status as the mother and will be eligible for registration as a British citizen when the mother naturalises.
