HI Everyone,

Please excuse me if my question is not 100% related to BC but I couldn't think of a better forum to ask this question.

My one year old has got a British Passport and we are planning to Travel to South Africa later this month. We have also applied for his South African passport (which South African embassy says will take a few months).
I know that to enter and Exit South Africa he should be using South African passport (if he has one). However right now he hasn't got his South African passport. Just the application has been made and is under processing.

Would that create any problems or can we just travel using his British Passport. My wife and baby are planning to stay there for 5 weeks.

Thanks a lot
R

It should be ok. Take proof that you have applied for the SA one though just in case.

Don't forget to take the full unabridged birth certificate with you.

If one parent is not traveling with the child, you need to provide an affidavit that you are the parent and consent to their travel plus copies of your SA identity/passport documents.

Char,

Thanks a lot for your help :)

Yes we got the affidavit from SA Embassy in London. I will also get the copies of ID docs certified. It is just going into SA. On the way back we will be travelling together so shouldn't be an issue.

Many thanks
R

If you have travel in the next few weeks, you could also apply for an emergency passport. It takes about 10 days and can be used to enter and exit SA.
