Can I apply for British Citizenship?

I was born in Canada and have lived here all my life, my father immigrated here from the UK in the early 70's, and married my Canadian mother here.

Do I qualify for UK Citizenship by decent? if so, how complicated of a process is it to obtain?

I think if your dad was born in the UK and married to your mum you are automatically British (by descent) and can apply directly for a passport: https://www.gov.uk/apply-renew-passport

Passport applications usally take 4-6 weeks from within the UK but can take 6-12 months from abroad.

Which year were you born? Were your parents married when you were born?

I was born in 91. Parents were married at the time, yes.

In that case, apply directly for a UK passport (assuming dad is UK-born).

So I'm already a UK citizen?... Do I need anything from my parents to apply for the passport? How do I prove that I'm eligible?

Thanks

You are a British citizen by descent. Have a look at the passport application guidance :) :)

You need to establish the circumstances of your birth if your father was married to your mother or not.

If yes, he was married to your mother then you are British citizen by descent n can apply for passport with all the necessary evidence at your arsenal.

There are instances where birth of a child is legitimated by their parents getting married after their birth. Consult a solicitor or do the research yourself

if no, then there may be an entitlement under Section 3(1) of BNA 1981. This will give you full citizenship i.e British citizen otherwise than by descent.

 Please note: i dont know if it is limited to only MINORS. I know there are certain avenues for adults to be registered as British citizens

Perhaps reading the whole thread will be beneficial :? OP is British by Descent as already clarified in response to ohara's question . FYI - Entitlement to register is under section 1(3) and NOT 3(1). MN1 is ONLY applicable to under 18 year olds.

Thanks for the correction, bro. Chapter 9.9 under section 3(1) is discretionary (including 9.2 -9.16) - as these people dont have to meet all the strict requirements of Chapter 9.17

I am a female. Please don't confuse the issue of the OPs question, which has been answered. S 3(1) discretionary registration has nothing to do with this topic.
