i am taking both referee from my religious community,
one acting as personal and one as professional.

in section 5.2 of the form question asked it - say how you know the applicant? can both the answer be friend or the professional one needs to be different.

for example the professional one will be either a nurse or lecturer - but i am not their regular patient or student. i know them as a friend

You should be ok - you know them through your religious affiliation. If there is an issue HO may ask for another referee.

Each referee should be:
• not related to you
• not related to the other referee
• not your solicitor or agent representing you with this application
• not employed by the Home Office

Just to add from personal experience. I acted as a referee for a longtime friend who knew me through our church and also had the vicar of our church their other reference. Both of us qualified as professional referees as well. Their application was successful.
