Place of birth changed name

Hi everyone.

Couldn`t find the answer for my question yet, so will ask.

I was born in a town which changed it`s name long ago along with the region name (luckily country name stayed the same). So technically in my birth cert and all my previous applications for ILR, visas etc I used name from my birth cert which was issued by the country occupying my country of birth at the time of birth.

I`m going to apply for BC but if they decide to Google my place of birth it doesn`t exist any-more. Shall I still go with what is on my birth cert? Also because of thy changed not just places but the way they write. My name was changed from Aleksandr on birth cert to Oleksandr in my passport (also bits of surname was changed as well). It wasn`t an issue before with all my previous applications. Is that an issue now?

Thank you.

As regards change of place names, the Home Office (at least HMPO) have a policy on it, which you may want to read up on.

Be aware that the spelling of your name on any British passport issued to you will have to match that of your foreign passport.

Thank you.

The place of birth is the same on birth cert and in the passport... But geographically it changed to different name now.

Shall I submit my birth cert with my application (which will possibly create confusion) or passport and BRP be enough?

Thank you.

Explain the change of name of place of birth in a cover letter. The new name will be the one printed on your passport.

I think passport and BRP should be sufficient, but wait for others to comment.
