Naturalization Applied - Need to travel urgently to India

Hi All,

I am in a unique situation and do not know how to proceed:

I have applied for Naturalization in Feb 2017 after being on ILR for 1 year (Tier 1 General 5 years +1 year ILR) along with my wife and son.
Got Bio-metrics letter on 16/03/2017 and enrolled it the same day.

For the last few days my Father in India is not keeping well and his condition is critical.Problem is I have sent my Indian Passport and ILR BRP card along with the application.

My key questions are:

How do I get my documents back ?
If I request my documents back, what happens to my application ?
How soon can I expect a response on the case after the bio-metrics are done ?
If application is approved, will I get my BRP card back ?
If not, can I travel to India and enter UK on the citizenship certificate ?

Please any responses by some experienced people are highly appreciated and will help me take a quick right step.

Many Thanks !

There is a question in the form as to whether you want to withdraw the application or not.

There is no legal time limit by which time the application must be processed. Check the timeline threads in these forums for a general idea.

To the best of my knowledge, if you have submitted your BRP, you do not get it back and it is destroyed by the Home Office. But I could be wrong. Wait for others to advise.

A citizenship certificate is not a travel document and it is likely that you may not be allowed to board a plane to come to the UK. The problem may not lie with the UK Immigration authorities, but with the Indian emigration authorities and the plane front desk.

Also you will not be issued immediately with a citizenship certificate anyway. That will only occur after you have been approved AND attend a citizenship ceremony at the local council. Depending on which local council you nominated, such citizenship ceremonies are either fully booked or happen only rarely (once every two weeks or a month, etc).

This is exactly why we strongly recommend people apply using NCS at the council so that they get to keep their original documents. The fee NCS charge is miniscule compared to such emotional stress.
