British Passport application from India

Hi Guys,
I had applied for Naturalisation which has been approved and I have the ceremony on June 13th.
But unfortunately I have travel to India immediately after ceremony and I can't wait for the British passport to arrive. I can't return to the UK for a few months after that.
I have been told that I can apply for British passport from India. My question is what should I do with the Indian passport. Should I surrender my Indian passport as soon as I arrive in India and get a surrender certificate?
British passport will take 3-4 months to arrive when applied from India and I am Ok with it but my worry is whether I will be in India legally or not?
If I surrender my Indian passport as soon as I arrive in India, I will not have any documentation that can prove I am a citizen of India.
If I do not surrender my Indian passport and wait till I surrender it until I get my British passport what will the authorities say when they look at my passport and/or Naturalisation certificate? Will they say I was living in India illegally?
