Not renewing British passport any advice????

Advice please...... I am a naturalised British citizen from a 38 years marriage to a British husband, but I also hold a passport from a country of my birth that forbids dual nationality. I didn't want a British passport originally but my husband insisted that I must have one. But now I find it more cumbersome each time I return to my home country because of various immigration requirements to show visa stamps on my passport and I'm under a threat of loosing my citizenship. The UK home office no longer stamps right of abode on the foreign passport if one already has a British passport. I have been wondering what would happen if I do not renew my British passport, whether I could get a residency or right of abode stamps on my passport from the home office? Thank you,

There is no obligation on a British citizen to keep a valid British passport. This is especially the case if you no longer live in the United Kingdom. However- you should be aware that after a certain period of time you will no longer be able to simply renew your passport and would have to make a first-time application should you want a new one. Either way-you should take good care of your citizenship documentation (naturalisation certificate and expired British passports) in case you find that the Home Office has lost records in future.

As far as I am aware, it is possible to get a Right of Abode stamp if you no longer hold a British passport- but this may simply signal your British citizenship to the other country. Also- depending on the other country's laws, there is a distinction between those that say your local citizenship can be (or likely will be) revoked if they find out you're also British- but revocation doesn't happen until they decide it does. Example- Malaysia. As opposed to some countries who would say that your local citizenship is automatically revoked whether or not they know about any foreign citizenship (example- India).

If you want to visit the United Kingdom using a foreign passport- it depends on whether that passport is visa-exempt for tourist purposes.

I would never advise to use deception in these matters (although I accept that it is sometimes necessary).

The only clean solution is to give up British Citizenship, which is a rather radical step. Would you consider that?
