MN1 form - do we need to post original passport and BRP card

Hi there,

I'm an Indian living in UK, just got my ILR visa . I'm about to apply for MN1 application form my UK born son who's 9 months old. i have some queries where i need help.

I have received my Permanent resident (ILR Visa) and my son was born in UK and have got his UK birth certificate. he doesn't have an Indian passport, where i'm going to apply for his British citizenship as he's eligible under section 1 (3) of the British Nationality Act 1981.

I also understand that i need to provide the following documents:

Completed MN1 application form including two referees.
Proof one parent is either is British or has indefinite leave to remain.
Full UK Birth certificate showing both parents names.
Parent's passports.
Child's passport(s) if they have one.
Home Office fees (depending on the type of application

My queries:

1, Do i need to post the Original passports of both parents along with my biometric ILR card? or just the photocopies have to be couriered ?

I'm planning to move into a new property in 3 weeks time and i dont want to loose time as i've got some upcoming travel. the new property is confirmed and all agreements will be in place in a day or two.

2, In this case , should i apply using my current address and apply for an address change? - is so how can i do it?
3, or can i apply using my new home address?

I request your advice on the above queries. Thanks in advance .

Use NCS and retain all original documents for travelling. Better to give new home address so that biometrics letter can reach there.

Hi Plabo,

Thanks very much for your response. I now have 2 more queries after filling the application,

1, Where do we fill the main applicants's (ILR details based on which this form is applied ? - there is only one section which states are you applying based on British Citizenship by decent etc , then it asks about the child's grand parents details (based on which i got the citizenship by decent).

2, Where should i enter the payment details - there isnt a section in the form?

would appreciate if you can help . thanks in advance.

Have you read the form MN1 guidance notes at all?

The child is the main applicant, not you. It would be helpful if you posted the question numbers to questions you are asking about.
2, Where should i enter the payment details - there isnt a section in the form?

Thanks CR001. I did, just got a bit confused.

In that case, i assume that Section 3 of the MN1 form - "Parents residence in the UK or British overseas territories, where applicable" section should be left blank.
Please confirm it, thanks.

Section 3 is not relevant to Section 1(3) applications.

Hi ,

I have now applied the MN1 applications - what are the next steps, reading from the forum i understand that,
1,i will get a letter for bio metrics
2,once bio metric is done , the naturalisation certificate will be issued
3, using the naturalisation certificate i should apply for British passport

please confirm if its right or if i have missed anything. thanks
