BRP status when applying for Citizenship

Hi,

When would the BRP be invalid once the british citizenship application has been approved?
The day you send it off, once you attended the ceremony or once the certificate has been issued?

the reason i'm asking this is because from what I understand, you don't have to surrender your current passport (whatever that is) to the home office when applying. Therefore I should be able to travel using that passport and my BRP card? Is that correct?

Thanks in advance.

You are only British once the above occurs. Before that point, you are free to travel or use your BRP card until that point.
