Citizenship after ILR (5 year route)

Hi all,

Looking for advice.

My wife got her ILR on the 5 year route yesterday through the premium centre.

I have read that she can apply for citizenship once she has obtained her ILR if she is married to a british citizen(me). Does this mean she can apply for her citizenship straight away? Or will she have to wait 12 months as per standard?

Thanks in advance.

She can apply straight away based on spouse of BC and 3 years residence IF she meets ALL the requirements of the 3 years residence, including being physically present in the UK at the start of the residence period (same date as she applies) and is within the absence limit.

She should wait for her ILR BRP card first.

The BRP card will hopefully be here this week.

The plan is to take a holiday Easter next year and then apply when we return.

Thanks for your advice.

Why not apply now if she meets the requirements? It takes about 3 to 4 months and if you apply through NCS at the local council you get to keep hold of all your original documents and can apply for citizenship and passport simultaneously.

Current cost is £1287 and the fees go up by roughly 20-25% in april each year.

I will look into it and possibly apply now. Thanks.
