Dear All,

Good afternoon to Respected Gurus, Moderators and Members of this forum.

I have a friend who asked me to post a question on his behalf, He just wanted to know which application form needs to be used to file his child Naturalisation application to register him as British Citizen, I think it is MN1 but just need to confirm, please see details of his child below:
  • Born in Dublin (ROI - Outside UK) - Birth certificate.
  • ILR granted based on refugee status(Family) last Year in August.
  • Child is 7 Years old and apart from his birth's first month he is in London, UK.
I think he can use MN1 but I am confused to which section, I did apply for my daughter using MN1 section 1(3) as she was born in UK before I got ILR, Clearly his child is not falling under this category.

His questions are:
  • Which form needs to be used and under which section.
  • What documents will be required (I think if we get clarification on section then we can work out the document requirements based on this)
Please if someone can kindly advise, I would be really grateful, Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
SeptT1

A child born abroad will only qualify to apply for citizenship when either parent applies or once either parent is already British.

So in answer to your question, no the child cannot apply on their own on form MN1.
