My wife is due to apply ILR in January this year after completing 5 years in Uk (On 5 year Route) I believe once she has received ILR as a spouse she can apply straight away for citizenship?

When applying does this always have to be done in person at a designated center or can it be done via the post?

When applying at a center I notice the form lists accepted forms of ID, is the ID checked at the center then returned or do they keep whatever for of ID you use? (passport, Driving Licence etc)

Thanks Steve

Yes, assuming you are British and she meets all the requirements based on the 3 years immediately before applying, including the absence limit and being physicallly present in the UK on the same date exactly 3 years ago as the date she applies.

Either option. By post you have to send all originals, including passports. If you apply at NCS at the council, they copy your documents and give all the originals back to you. NCS charge a small fee for the service. Applying at NCS also allows you to apply for citizenship and British passport at the same time using the JCAP scheme. This scheme is not available if you apply yourself by post.
