Hi All, I am new to this forum so will appreciate your patience with my posts. Thanks you
1. My question is that what is the requirements for residence for Irish Nationals to apply for British Citizenship.
2. I am an Irish national (naturalised) living and working continuously in England from July 2012. As there is no border checks or passport stamps in between Ireland and UK, so obviously my Irish passport has no entry or exit stamps from or for Ireland and UK.
3. I do have employment letters confirming my employment for all that duration (5 years, 2 months) along with HMRC letter confirming my tax that been paid in last 5 years.
4. I do have National Insurance number and letter issued to me in August 2012.
5. Am I eligible for BC as I read it that for Irish Nationals, the period of settlement starts from the day you land/work/live in UK rather than going through ILR route.
6. Do I have to use EU treaty rights for BC?
7. What documents do I need to prove my residence in UK as I heard that HO do not accept Bank statements or Council tax letters.

I'll appreciate your replies and help.

Off course I did....It's very vague and have no answers to my queries that's why I am here asking for help. Thanks

The special status of Irish citizens in the U.K. is hinted at in various publications but not written down in a single place. Example references:

The answers to the questions are as follows:

1. 5 years (3 years if spouse of a British citizen).
5. It appears so, as long as you were physically in the U.K. on the date 5 years before application and have not had excess absences. You'll also need to show you became an Irish citizen before then.
6. No.
7. Nothing stopping you from sending them. Also employment documentation, copy of U.K. driving licence, house purchase/rental details, and so on. EEA citizens don't have passports stamped either and the Home Office are used to that.

Also keep in mind that as a naturalised Irish citizen you are supposed to register an intention to retain Irish citizenship after 7 years of non-residence. There used to be a form on the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service website but it appears no longer available. Also, in theory- there's a power under the law to revoke the Irish citizenship of a naturalised citizen who acquires another nationality but it appears that has never been used before now.
