British Citizenship for 2 children born in the UK/1 EEA citizen through adoption?

hello!
I have 3 lovely children, & unfortunately their father has been out of the picture for a long time, however my ex-partner, who I am still very close friends with (comes over every day for most of the day, celebrates christmas, new years etc with us), is like a father to them. Today he suggested that he would like adopt them so he would officially be their father, this led me to wonder whether this would change their current status? would they become british citizens?

Thanks in Advance

The two children born in the UK - at the time their were born did you or the father have PR/ILR or had exercised Treaty Rights for five years? If yes they would be British automatically. If not then they could probably be registered. Child born outside the UK would need to be registered. Adoption by a British citizen will not confer citizenship, they would still need to be registered. More experienced members could probably confirm what is possible.
