Proof of identity for British citizenship application

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to apply for British citizenship shortly and would like to double check something. Do I understand it correctly that they accept a photographic driving license (issued in Germany, NOT a UK one) as proof of identity or do they require an ID card or passport?

Also, my friend's passport expires in October. Does someone know if they would still accept it or if it has to be valid longer?

I hope someone can help.

Thanks,

The way I read what it says for supporting documents at the end of the AN form is that you need either a passport or a national ID card. I don't think a German driver's licence is good enough.

You can use your German ID card if you don't want to use the passport.

Also, if you apply via NCS you get to keep your documents as they photocopy them, so as long as your friend's passport is valid on the day of their application, I believe they should be ok. Perhaps someone else can confirm this though.
