English Requirement

Hello there,

I'm about to apply for British citizenship but I'm a bit confused about the language requirements.

I took the IELTS B2 in January 2016, it's valid for 2 years, which means that it expired a few months ago.
It's one of the recognised tests on the HO list, and I took the exam in the UK in Oxford.
I'm a EU national and I never used it for other applications ( for example ILR).I already have a Permanent Residence Card.

Can I use it for my application or do I need to do it again?

Thanks a lot.

Gabriel

You need a new test (and Life in the UK test if not already done).

You can only use an expired test that still appears on HOs list IF you have used it in a previous visa/ILR application. As you followed the EU route where it was not required, you need to meet both of the requirements (used previously and on HOs list).

Its no use being frustrated about implementation of rules. It may not be logical but rules are enforced according to the decisions of the powers that be. I know its costs £150 but there is an alternative. Its better to just go on with the job rather than try to get around the requirements.

Hello there,

Can a non British University lecture act as a professional referee on the citizenship application?

Many thanks.

Yes, if lecturer is on the list.

The professional referee DOES NOT have to be British.
