Right of abode

I have a certificate to entitlement to the right of abide on an expired passport. On the UK gov website it states that I need to renew it once the passport has expired. I have been gaining entry into the country with it along with a current US passport for almost 10 years. UK immigration doesn't seem worried about it. The harassment I get is when I check in for flights in the US. They state that they are not sure if they can let me on the flight. What else can I do to prove I can remain in the UK with out renewing the certificate as it cost £350

Unfortunately, renewal
applications are
not regarded as simple transfers anymore.
What’s your family’s immigration history?
When were you born?
Parents’ details?
How long have you been residing in the UK?

I'm going to assume the CoE sticker is on a non-US passport, since it is my understanding that RoA is available only to British citizens and certain other commonwealth citizens who have never ceased to be so. The question therefore would be - are you still a citizen of the commonwealth country whose expired passport you have the CoE on ?
