Child born overseas

Hi,

I and my wife are ILR holders and this is a question about my daughter (also has ILR) born overseas. Can she apply for British Citizenship registration, even after our ILR lapses? Here are some background.
  • My Daughter was born overseas and has been in the UK since she is 2 month old. All of I, my wife and my daughter have ILR now but not at the time of her birth.
  • I understand children born overseas from parents who have obtained ILR subsequently (even later than their birth) can be registered as British citizen.
  • We may go back to our home country soon and, I understand, our ILR can lapse if we are absent from the UK for 2 years.
  • Our home country does not allow dual citizenship. Thus, we do not wish to become British citizen at this moment. However, our daughter, who is still 7 years old, may want to live in the UK in the future when she is older and she can make her own decision of choice of nationality.

I appreciate your advice on above.

If above is not possible, I assume the only way is to maintain ILR as long as possible (try to be in compliance with 2 year rule)?
It is a real pain that my home country does not allow dual citizenship. I appreciate if someone has any other suggestions.

Best regards,

She can apply only if either parent is also applying.

She loses her other citizenship automatically once she becomes British, same as you and your wife.
