British passport for my child

Hi there

My baby was born in the UK and I am currently on indefinite lease to remain (ILR). I am starting the process to apply for my citizenship and eventually British passport. Question is, should I

1) Apply for baby’s citizenship through the MN1 form with a fee of £1,020

OR

2) Get my citizenship and British passport. Once I receive this , can I apply for baby’s British passport simply with the passport office ? ie does a parent having a British passport make the application for my baby a lot simpler and cheaper once I get my British passport

Appreciate any advice you may have as I’m struggling to work out the best and cheapest way to get baby’s British passport

Many thanks

Thank you Vinny. I read your other post and does this mean that my baby must apply citizenship ie pay the £1040 fee, and I can’t wait until I get British passport and apply for my baby’s British passport ?

If child was born before you gained ILR then proceed as advised.
You becoming British citizen will not confer citizenship onto your child.

Thanks for your comments. My child was born after I gained ILR . If could let me know if you think I should 1) apply for my baby’s citizenship under MN1 form; or 2) wait for me to become British citizen and British passport and then I can apply for baby’s British passport direct (and no need for MN1 form application ) ?

Many thanks, again

If your child was born in the UK after you already held ILR, then the child is automatically British and can apply for a passport directly. This is regardless of whether you apply for British citizenship or not.

Thank you. I’ve gone to apply for a new British passport for my baby however it’s not clear on where I need to provide my ILR details ? The form asks for my British passport (which I don’t have ) and grandparents details however no questions relate to me on where to put in my visa status. Can anyone help with this , please ?

Thank you

Thanks CR00

The British passport application doesn’t specifically ask for my ILR documents. Under Section 8: More Information, shall I include in this section ?

My other question is I would like to apply under the ‘1 week fast application’ (£149 fee) and intend to bring all these documents to the appointment in person.

I don’t have British citizenship certificate for me or baby but I do have ILR in my passport (and baby was born in UK) which was issued before baby was born.

Do you think this information and approach I am taking is sufficient ? It would you advice differently.

Many thanks again !
