Merchant seaman applying for naturalisation

Hi guys,
I have just received an approval letter for my PR,which means that I should be able to apply for naturalisation within a year.
Due to the nature of my work, merchant seaman, I will not be fulfilling the residency requirements, therefore my only route will be application by discretion. I realise that it is better to plan in advance now that I have time to figure out what I can do to maximise my chances of approval later.
Ties to the UK: I work on an almost fixed rotation of 4 months at sea (international voyages, deep sea), 4 months vacation. Married with an EEA citizen, have two british children by birth. Own a house in the UK (paying mortgage). Have a car.
Likely scenario at the time of application:
Absence from the UK in the last 5 years: 770 days (720 days due to work at sea, 50 days holiday trips)
Absence from the UK in the last 12 months: Few days north or south of 180 days.
My questions are:
Can I expect discretion to be duely applied in my case?
Since it is impossible for me to change my work routine in order to bring down the number of absent days in the last 12 months, what other options do I have?
I appreciate any inputs at all, please.
