British citizenship - Penalty notices and parking related offences.

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if you can provide with some feedback. I was reading through the requirements of Good Character. In the last few years, I have received the below driving related offences:

- February 2019: Park on disabled place (It was a good lesson, it will never happen again);
- August 2018: Attended a national speed awareness course after driving above the speed limit;
- May 2017: Three points on my license after driving at 43 mph instead of 30 mph.

I have received parking fine because I didn't have a ticket or parking permit. Can you please tell me if it will jeopardise my application for the British citizenship?

Thank you.
Jamal

British citizenship - Proof of presence in the country between two jobs

Hello everyone,

I hope you can help me here. I am preparing my application for the british citizenship. Last year, I left my previous job in October 2018 (on my P60, the end date is 04/10/208) and I start a new job in December 2018 (my start date on my offer letter is 03/12/2018). How can I provide evidence of my presence in the UK during these two months? I can provide bank statements, phone bills. Will it be enough for the Home Office?

Thank you in advance,
Jamal

If you declare those two months as "unemployed" between two jobs then it's questionable whether you need to prove residency for that time. You could have gone on holidays ... If you prefer to provide something any type of official document would be ok (Council, HMRC, etc).

Thanks alterhase58. Back in October, I didnt declare my unemployment to HMRC because I had a job lined up starting in December.

I will get in touch with the Council, hopefully the evidence they will provide should suffice to justify my period of unemployment.

I don't think you have to justify two months of unemployment, and in between jobs.

My Referee lives and works abroad

Hi all,

I am wondering if you can help me here. My referee has recently moved abroad in EU country. I am planning to submit my application for naturalisation as a British citizen this week. I have checked in "Nationality Policy: general Information – all British nationals" and nothing seems to indicate the referee should live in the UK. Can you please confirm if she's still suitable?

Many thanks,
Jamal

Hi,

I hope you can help here. I would like to use the services from UKVCAS (document checks, translation, etc...) before submitting my application for naturalisation as a british citizen. On their website, I am unable to create an account and book an appointment. Can someone tell me how I can do it?

Thank you,
Jay

Hello CR001,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I have completed the online form. I didnt make the payment because I want my support documents to be checked first. I thought this service is supposed to replace the NCS.

You have to submit and pay and then book an appointment. You can't attend sopra until an application has been made. Note that sopra is only a document and biometric agent. They only check the scanned documents are good enough quality etc and do not check your AN application or that what you have submitted is what is required.

It is not a like for like service as what NCS was.

You mention translation in your first post?? What exactly do you mean??

Thank you again for the message. I will have to pay the fees first i. e. Over £1300... I wanted my application to be checked before making the payment.
On the sopra website, they mention about "Document Checking" where they can check your document and if they meet the required quality standards. Are you saying they will not check if there is any missing documents in my application?

Back in 2011, my contract was in french and was based in the UK. I would need to get the document translated.

Last question , I have had my PR since April 2017. Will I need to provide employer letters before April 2017? Or the ones post April 2017 will suffice.

They are not immigration or nationality advisors. Merely a third party agent with a contract for HO. They don't offer advice and only really concern themselves with the mandatory documents your application lists. You will not get any advice on your application from them.
Back in 2011, my contract was in french and was based in the UK. I would need to get the document translated.
Why are you submitting this document?? Citizenship is based on the 5 years immediately preceding your application so not sure why you are submitting this document from 2011. Any document you submit that is not in English must be translated by an official HO approved translator. Sopra does not do this for you.

You need to submit evidence of your residence in the UK for the 5 years immediately preceding the date of application. As an EU citizen, this is required as your passport is not stamped when traveling into the UK.

p.s. I will merge this topic with your other one. Please keep ALL questions on the same application in ONE topic.
