MN1 visa for my new born child

I have applied MN1 - to register my child as a british citizen, for my new born child on 05/12/2018 (submitted online application) and biometrics done 11/12/2018. We did not receive any Acknowledgement letter and its nearly 4.5 months. Can I write a letter to ask them about it or wait for the 6 month processing time. Any valuable help please.
