Hi,

I am now a British citizen and have just applied for my wife's ILR from UK (she has been here 6 years as Tier 1 dependent). Both are kids are BCs.

Once my wife gets ILR I have 2 questions:

Q1: can she apply for naturalization right away, without waiting for a year?
Q2: can she apply from outside the UK?

Thank you,
Ali

1. Yes, if she meets all the requirements including absence limit for 3 years and physically present etc.

2. Not really. Very rare occasions that this is permitted. Why would she want to apply from abroad??

My mother is sick and has got cancer. I want to move back until my mother can manage herself. Without me working in London my family would have to move with me until my mother gets better. It might be a year or two, I don't know.

Can my wife apply for naturalization and then come back for citizenship ceremony. Or would she need to surrender her passport?

Thank you CR001.
