Citizenship for a child

Hi all,

My wife and I lived in uk since 2009. Our son was born in 2014 outside uk due to better medical treatment in another country, but came back to uk with my wife soon after birth.

My wife and I are both naturalised citizens since 2017, but we have not included our son in our application at the time due to costs.

The current situation is that my wife and son live in another EEA country, while I continue to work and live mostly in UK.

Under current circumstances, what would be the simplest way to obtain citizenship for our son? I assumed it would be by descent, but cannot see specific guidance for “born in another country, to non UK parents, who have since been naturalised”.

Thank you in advance.

It will be under Registration at the Home Secretary’s discretion – Section 3(1) application
Register the child using form MN1

The child would be expected to have ILE (which s/he should get as both parents are British citizens) and be resident in the UK before applying for registration as a British citizen under Section 3(1) as mentioned by Zimba.

Citizenship by descent applies to children born abroad after the parent has acquired British citizenship.
