National insurance number

Hi all,
Tracy here

I am applying for British citizenship by descent through my father and have some questions regarding my national insurance number.

I was issued a national insurance number automatically when I turned 16 but I cannot find the form and thus do not know what my national insurance number is and can not provide it when applying for British citizenship.

Will UKBA be able to identify my NI number using my passport?

No payslip? Or p60 , p45 or any tax letter?

Since I am no longer in the UK I can't apply for such a thing. I am supplying with my application my non-uk passport. Surely UKBA Will simply be able to pull up my my national insurance number when the scan my passport?

In that case I would put "not known". Like you said UKVI (ex-UKBA) should be able to find the number if they need it. You could also attach a note explaining the situation.

OK I will. I would imagine when applying for citizenship checking to see if the applicant has a national insurance number would be a standard procedure.

It is very unlikely HO will search for your NI number. That is another department of government and they dont search details in HO itself. You have to provide it.
I dont see why you cannot apply for that detail from abroad. After all HO is moving all information digital. They dont issue a card like they did a few years ago. Try applying and it may help.

Re-reading your original post can you explain on what basis you are actually applying (which form) - if your father is a British citizen then you may also be British already and could apply for a passport directly.

I would have been a British citizen automatically had my parents been married, they were not and have never been. My mother is a non-uk citizen and my father is UK born.
