register as British citizen - referee requirement

I wish to register as a British citizen (my father is British).
My question is about the referees.
On the official UKVI form, there is no mention that the referee must know the applicant for 3 years.

But in some of these forums, some people suggest that the referee should know the applicant for 3 years. why is that?
So, can i apply if i have known the referee for only 2 years?

How old are you? Were you born in the UK or abroad? Did your father acquire British citizenship before or after your birth?

OP appears to be OVER 18 as has a Tier 4 student visa history for a university course.

If you are over the age of 18, then you can't register as a British citizen on Form MN1 based on your father's British citizenship.
Was your father a British citizen at the time of your birth?

Useful to read the Nationality Policy Guidance, page 9 specifically, regarding referees where it clearly states the requirements on knowing an applicant.

but if parents register a child of less than 3 years old, how is it possible the referee knows the child for more than 3 years?

1. Who exactly is the question for as your previous posts suggest you are over 18?? Your opening post is that YOU are applying to register as your father is British
2. For MN1 for children under 18, the requirements are the professional referee needs to be engaged with the child. It is common sense that a person cannot know a child for 3 years if the child is under 3!!

I just wonder why the 3 year requirement is NOT stated on the form which is signed by the referee.

The form is merely that 'a form'. You should always read the guidance notes etc and not rely only on the forms.
You are perhaps just overthinking this a little bit.

Your circumstances really are VERY unclear. If the application is for YOU as an adult (which you appear to be), MN1 is not appropriate. If for you, what is your claim to British citizenship as moderator secret.simon has already asked??
If the application is for some child under the age of 3, then the referee simply states 'known since birth' or whichever date is applicable that they have known the child since.
Note that the use of any deception or false infomation on a HO form could result in refusal and a referee can be fined or imprisoned if they give false information, as the referee form clearly states.
Perhaps you need to take this application, the questions asked to get clarity and the advice given a bit more seriously. Citizenship is a privilege, not a right.
