Waiting 1+ year for naturalisation decision?

EEA national, applied June 2018. Lived in the UK since July 2011. Provided Perm Res doc, UK degree cert, life in the UK test, UK marriage cert, passports and HMRC 6 year employment timeline. No convictions. I declared 3 parking fines (private car parks). Nothing otherwise unusual. Any idea why I am still waiting on a decision?

I have now contacted my MP, as the Home Office simply sends the following message:

"We aim to process all applications within 6 months from the date submitted. However, in certain circumstances this target is not possible. Please note that we will contact you as soon as we are in a position to take a decision on your case. You do not need to contact us again unless you need to report a change in circumstance."

We cannot know why your application is taking so long even though long waits of more than 6 months are fairly uncommon. Every application is different and will be decided on its own merit. Background checks for British citizenship are extensive and may involve external agencies/authorities for example the authorities in your home country. Sometimes bureaucracy and extra scrutiny of your case will make it take much longer than expected. Be patient and wait to hear back
