Hi all

I've been living in the UK for the past 20 years and want to apply for naturalisation. I have settled status / ILR

And I have a question regarding the documents indicating presence in the UK "from employers, educational establishments, or other government departments".

- I'm self employed, do you have any advice what kids of proof from employers I could send in?
- and what are other government departments? NHS?

These are the docs I have so far...is this enough?
- a letter from my childrens' school stating that I reside at my home address in the UK and that my children have been attending this school since 2013
- a letter from the local college (UAL) with a list of all the classes I've taught there on location since 2011 (classes are only Oct-Dec and Jan-Mar)

Are these docs sufficient? What else can I add? I'd appreciate any input please

I am not a great believer in this letter.

The letter from the school you work for is good but you need more. Do you receive any letters from HMRC?

For example, you raise a point that I already suspected: an official letter from my kids school confirming that I live at my address and that my kids have been at that school since 2013 doesn't hold much weight. How can I make it sound better?

On your advice I've also dug through my archives (I'm German btw but not very bureaucratic, which means I didn't really hang on to all the letters that have been posted to me over the years).

My part time employer is sending me these:
- The last 5 years of P60 from my part time employer (the problem is that the courses I teach are term-time, with the months May-September are unaccounted for, so even though I've been here and raised my kids here there could be perceived "holes" in my presence in the UK?


And I found these additional docs, and would be eternally grateful if you could let me know which ones would be useful?

- 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 Local Government Pension Scheme Annual Benefit Statement
- July 2015 HMRC letter about the changes they made to Class 2 National Insurance
- a letter from the landlord confirming my husband and me have rented from him since 2008
- 2017 two letters from different employers confirming that I worked there between 2003-2011
- 2016 "Your first accounts" letter from Companies House
- P60 from 2012, 2013
- P45 from 2012
- P45 2019
- July 2018 letter from the college I teach at reminding me of "the new hourly paid system"
- Feb 2015 HMRC PAYE coding Notice
- March 2017 letter from HMRC
- Jul 2018 HMRC letter stating that my company tax return is due
- Aug 2012 HMRC NI record
- Jan 2014 letter from teh college I teach at
- Feb 2014 Local Government Pension Scheme letter
- Business Bank account statement (it says NO Bank statements right?)
- undated letter from ABRSM (official music institution)
- 2015 - 2017 HMRC letters I have a whole collection of those. But here's the problem: this letter only contains the previous name of my company before I officially changed it. My personal name isn't on there, b ut my home address is on there. It is possible to figure out that this company is related to me, but would they look that up? Would this type of document work?
- letters from the NHS hospital addressed to the parent or guardian of my daughter (my name isn't on there but our home address)


To finish this off, I need to prove 3 years of presence. I've been here 18 and at this address 12. In my logic it makes sense to include a few older ones to show that continuity. Am I onto something here or just not thinking like a lawyer at all?

I'm an EEA national and have just gotten settled status / ILR.

Do I need to apply for and receive a permanent residence card before I can apply for citizenship?

No you don't but with Settled status, you have to wait the full 12 months before you can apply for citizenship.

PR can be backdated if you have a 5 year qualifying period more than 1 year ago. Settled status is not back dated.

Can you PLEASE keep ALL your questions on the same application in ONE topic!!!

As I'm married to a British citizen I'll be able to apply immediately for citizenship now.

And apologies for starting separate topics, I thought that would be easier for others to only read about those parts of my application concerning them too. But I will stick to this one thread now!

Hi all!

Can I just print out online council tax bills and use them as proof of residence for my citizenship application to cover the 3 year period?
Or do I need to get them stamped by the council?
Or do I need to request original letters printed & posted by the council?

generally P60s or employer's letters are requested - not all documents though

I'm an EEA citizen and have travelled to the UAE in December 2017 and didn't get an exit stamp when I exited. We travelled back through Dubai, does this happen that they forgot to stamp the passport there? Should I mention this in the cover letter?

The UK do not impose systematic exit controls on departing passengers. You were not "stamped out" because it is currently deemed an unnecessary use of resources. No such exit stamp exists

Did you not get an exit stamp from the state you were visiting? Dubai issues exit stamps but not on transit flights. Check flight details/ boarding pass.

What do I do now? I could still add this to the cover letter.
