Hello All,

I had applied for British Citizenship for my 3yr old daughter under MN1 and have just received the Certificate of British Citizen. We are travelling to India in a week and don't have the required time to apply for British passport and OCI visa for India.
My question is can my daughter travel to India using Indian passport and the existing BRP. It would be great help if someone can please advice.

Thank you

When does the (now invalid) brp expire and what brp category is it?

You can apply for a child passport using one week fast track.

Thanks for replying. BRP expires next year and it's under Tier 2 General dependent. I'll check the fast track passport application and apply first thing tomorrow. But how about Indian visa, won't she need it if traveling on British passport.

Only for adults. There is no restriction on fast track for children!

Even with the fast track application we'll be cutting it close.
Can we travel using the BRP?

You can do as you want, but that's plan is wrong as many levels.

As she got the British Citizenship, she is no longer Indian. So she is not supposed to use the Indian passport to start with.

Then, that BRP card, you need to send it to the Home Office not keep using it. Good scenario, it will be confiscated at the border when you come back. Worst case scenario, it will attract £1000 fine.

So you can use these documents to go to India and back. And you may even be successful in doing so, but that's your risk to take. Nobody can tell it's right and proper to do it.

Thank you for your reply @Zerubbabel. what would be the situation if we had already traveled and the certificate had come while we were out of country.

Hello

If you are out side the country during the process of getting naturalization that is fine. Once you get it you are a British citizen and India does not allow dual citizenship.

Though there is no there is no effect in getting British passport but when you surrender Indian passport you will need to pay a fine. If it's an emergency you can still travel
