Naturalization Referee passport

Hi All,
I have made a mistake on the application, i have submitted the application online but haven't booked the appointment yet.
One of my referees passport number has changed, he only let me know today.
How can i correct this please ?
Can i write a covering letter and provide new passport number ? would this be sufficient ?
