Form T - 90 days per year

Hey guys,
Simple question when registering a child who has lived in the UK for the first 10 years of their life.
If for example the total trip length was over 90 days, but it was spread over 2 years would that be within the requirement?
For example if you went in 06 October 2001 and returned on 19th January 2002, you would be over 90 days but as it spreads across two years, I don’t want to apply down this route if it will just be denied due to the residency of 90 days requirement. Could anyone just let me know their thoughts? My assumption would be that it’s looked on at a year by year basis as opposed to a trip by trip basis.
