Hi all. I would like to find out if after obtaining an ILR and I work outside the UK for a year and come back, how long before I am eligible to apply for Naturalisation when I come back.

Example

Jan 2020 I obtained ILR

March 2020 to March 2021 I live outside the UK

March 2021 I came back to the UK.

How long before I can apply for British Citizenship? Thanks in advance.

When your absence in the last 12 months immediately before applying is 90 days and your total absence in the 5 years immediately before applying is no more than 450 days.

Hi CR001. Is there any specific amount of time you need to stay in the UK every year to keep your ILR status? TA!

An absence from the UK for any continuous period of two years or more causes your ILR to lapse automatically.

Also, the Immigration Officer assesses whether you remain resident in the UK every time you return to the UK on your ILR. The expectation of ILR is that you are resident in the UK. If you appear to the Immigration Officer at the sea/air port as only visiting for short periods of time (and there is a history of short visits), s/he can cancel your ILR at the sea/air port and admit you as a visitor.
