Avoid original documents for British passport application after naturalisation

Is there a way one can send a verified copy (e.g. from council, post office etc.) of the original passport (Indian in my case) when applying for a British passport after naturalisation?
I want to avoid sending the original passport because I understand that the home office takes another 2-3 weeks to return previous passport after issuing the British passport. I intend to save those 2-3 weeks for my travel plans.
Thanks.

There is no way around it. To get your British passport issued, it will be requested by HMPO and providing it among other things leads to the processing and issuance
of your BP.
