Digital signature for referral letter

Is it fine if the referral letter is signed online(via Adobe or such services) or does it have to be signed in person and scanned?
Also how will the name behind the photo be validated if it is a digital copy or even a scanned one?

Though esignature allowed, preferably signed and scanned,

This was from the days of paper form, does not apply anymore as application done online.

Take photo of both sides of photo and referee letters together and upload them
