Travel after citizenship ceremony

Dear all,

After a wait of 5.5 months, I’ve finally received my invitation to attend the citizenship ceremony. I have some upcoming travel plans and would like to clarify: am I permitted to travel abroad after the ceremony using my current Indian passport, either with or without having applied for a British passport?

If you have any additional information regarding the use of the Indian passport in this context, I would greatly appreciate it.

Best regards,

Once you attend the ceremony you must use a British passport to travel. Either secure your British passport before your trip or schedule the ceremony for after you have returned.

Thanks!

Just one last question, if I apply for a British passport and then travel, would it be okay if someone at my UK mailing address receives the passport and post it to me abroad, so I can return to the UK with it? I'm still trying to figure out how feasible this is, especially in terms of airline ticketing. For a round-trip booking, I'd initially enter my Indian passport details, I’m hoping it would be possible to update the return leg with my British passport details once I receive it.

That won't work.

You have to submit your original foreign passport when you apply for your British passport.

As I advised above, if you don't have enough time to obtain a British passport before your scheduled trip just attend a ceremony after you have returned.
