UK Citizenship - no fixed address period

Hi everyone,

Thank you for the very helpful posts in this forum. I’m completing my UK citizenship application and I have a period of one year when I did not have a fixed residence. I stayed with friends and temporary accommodations in the UK, and other periods I was travelling or with family abroad.
I have EUSS and have worked for the same UK employer for the qualifying period.

My questions are:

- Is it acceptable for the HO to enter ‘no fixed abode’ in the ‘previous address’ section of the form and explain separately in a cover letter?

Or

- Do I need to list every accommodation I stayed in over that year in the ‘previous address’ section?

This would be around 25 entries only for that year, with some addresses repeating as I stayed with the same friends at different periods.

For example:
1 - 7 January - X address
8- 10 January - Z address
11- 30 January - X address again
1-5 feb - W address
6-7 feb - Y address
8-15 feb- Z address again
15 feb - 15 April - abroad with family
16 april - 26 april - Y address again
etc…

- If I need to list every address, should I/can I add addresses from other countries for the periods when I was travelling or visiting family ? The form doesn’t seem to have a ‘country’ field in that section.

If anyone has knowledge of similar circumstances and can offer advice, it would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

I should have noted that during that period I kept my previous address across everything, as I could receive and pick up post there.

However, I was removed from the council tax and electoral roll, so I worry that if I enter that address and it gets crossed checked with council records, it will be seeing as dishonest. Unless I explain this in a cover letter?

I'm really not sure what the best approach is. I don't want to make it unnecessarily complicated, but also I don't want to be dishonest.

Thank you.

Don't think this is a serious issue, but for peace of mind I would add a covering letter explaining the situation simply, and include the list of locations. It is not a requirement that could lead to a refusal - it's not a statutory requirement.

Thanks very much for your reply alterhase58. Good to hear it's not a reason of concern in terms of refusal.

I can explain in the cover letter. In terms of the previous addresses section in the application form - would it be ok to enter my previous address, even for the period when I had already moved out of the property, if I explain and give account of the temporary locations in the letter? For example:

Form:
X address
Date you lived there from: 1 January 2019
Date you lived there to: 1 January 2025 (even if I moved out 1 January 2024)

Cover letter:
From 1 Jan 2024 to 1 Jan 2025 my address continued to be X Road. I was not longer a tenant and temporarily stayed with friends and in short-term accommodations over that period. The addresses where I stayed are: (list of addresses) P60 provided as evidence of continued residence and employment.

Sorry to keep going on about it - is the one thing that I'm stuck (and worried) with the form.

If UKVI do have an issue they will contact you - though unlikely.
Your P60s are acceptable for proof of residency as they are official documents - employer has to submit these to HMRC.
They don't actually ask for proof of address, rather proof of residency which you will submit.
We've all been through this and know how nerve-racking it can be.
