Application question

Hi
I am trying to apply for naturalisation at the moment
I am having test next week hope I will pass the test
I have few questions please kindly answer.

1: For the test
I bought a book called ''Official Practice Questions'' and I can answer pretty much everything in the book now. Is that enough for preparation for the test?
Is there any website which I could practice more?(if the book is enough, I will stick with it though)

2: NCS
I will apply through NCS as someone on this forum kindly advised me that the way I could keep my original passport (I am likely to travel during the process so..)
to make an appointment, how I should do? just phone them and quite easy to meet them (or usually long waiting days?)

3: Application enquiries
I will be applying on the basis of residnece in the UK.
Not clear about the docs I need despite having the checklist from the uk border agency.
:Eveidence of your ID = My passport
:Evidence of the knowledge = Prove of Life in the uk (hope I get next week)
:Evidence of lawful residence during qualifying period=Passport again OK?:Evidence that you are free from immigration time restriction= I guess it should be my ILR visa on my passport and the letter from Home office which states that I am a ILR holder?

then go through the app (I downloaded the form)
the first page says,Naturalising as a British citizen in future ''What are the proposed change?''....well this new proposal has been legislated or not?
like Temp residence blah blah looks like they trying to set three stage to people go through....

Then Section 2
residence requirements
I am sure I meet their requirements (less than 90days within last 12months etc....BUT I am literally travelling a lot(I mean a lot) and so many stamps on my passport which quite hard to trace) also section 2 says, if this is not accurate, might result in my app....what I should do....do you have any idea of this section? please advise
then section 2.2. if you are not married etc...whoch country you intend to live if you are naturalised....Of course I should answer it would be the UK right? (even If I am not) please advise

Section3
Good character requirement
Home secretary to decide if I am of good character....
Are they going to call my employer to ask about me? (what if you are unemployed, should I put unemployed? (some said it won't be affect on the process.)
also says Checks will be made the police and possibly other government Departments, the security service, other agencies.
I understand the police to check for CRB, but what is actually another agencies might be checking us ? if you know please tell me. what is security service(Is that for terrorism related?) other gov departments? other agencies?

5: Referees and Identities
I have no idea who to choose what if you have nobody?)
I should be careful to choose ? Are they really contact those people? if they do what sort of things they would ask the referees?

That is all about my questions, waiting for your kind reply !!!

Preparing for the Life in the UK Test
If you have read the book and feel that you have a good memory of all its contents, then you are probably ready for the test. There are unofficial publications that contain practice tests and you may find it helpful to use one of these. Such publications are often sold alongside the official study guide in large bookstores.

Changes to the Law on Naturalisation
The changes that are mentioned on the application form were put into the Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Act 2009. The changes to the law on naturalisation are discussed a bit in this thread. In short, you need not worry about the changes because the new law is not yet in force and will not be for more than a year.

NCS Appointment
You should call the office of the local authority through which you plan to submit your application. You can get a listing of the local authorities that offer the NCS service and the numbers to call by clicking here and selecting the region in which you live.

Appointment availability will vary. When I called Islington Council, I was told that appointments were available for 2.45pm the next day or a week later. You will have to pay a fee to your local authority for your NCS appointment. This is separate from the application fee that you pay the Home Office. You should check the fee with your local authority. I can tell you that Islington Council's fee for my NCS appointment was £45.

Listing Foreign Travel
It is important that you accurately list all your journeys outside the UK in the last five years (or three years in the case of those who are spouses or civil partners of British citizens). When filling this page in, I used not only the stamps in my passport, but also checked flight booking confirmations stored in my e-mail, boarding passes, etc.

Intended Residence After Naturalisation
You must answer the question about your intended country of residence if you are not the spouse or civil partner of a British citizen. Your application is very unlikely to be approved if you do not intend to have your permanent home in the UK.

If you are unsure whether the Home Office may doubt your stated intentions, then you may want to look over the guidelines used by the Home Office in assessing future intentions.

Good Character Requirement
My understanding is that they send a standard letter to applicants' employers to confirm that the information stated about their employment is true. They may also contact HMRC to confirm that you appear to be paying taxes on your earnings (as they would certainly take a dim view of people who evade taxes).

Those who are not employed certainly can indicate this on their applications. It would probably make sense to provide information on page 14 about why they are not employed and provide their most recent employment details, if applicable. Full-time students may want to provide details of their studies and the contact details of their educational institution.

As noted, the "other departments" would include, for example, HMRC to confirm that you are not a tax cheat. The Security Service is MI5 and I would imagine that they check that there is no reason to believe that you are involved in terrorism, international drug trafficking, etc.

Referees
It is essential that you have eligible referees complete the relevant page. I suspect that this is to reduce the likelihood that applicants will impersonate another and to make sure that you have genuinely been in the UK long enough to have known some people.

It is important that you make sure that the referees are eligible per the criteria stated on the form. You could use any friends, colleagues, neighbours, etc. who meet the criteria and have known you long enough.

I am not sure about the likelihood that your referees will be contacted or the questions that they would be asked. I assume that they will at least check that your referees own the passports whose numbers are put on your application.
