So I have it clear in my mind is it the case that out of the two referees ONLY the one who has a British Passport ie the non-professional referee has to give their passport number on the form and the professional one doesn't have to? I was thinking of using the GP as the professional referee but can't see them giving me their passport details somehow?
Thanks

If they have a British passport, then both of your referees should write down their passport number.
I'm sure your GP will put down his passport number as GP's often act as referees for British passport applicants where putting down the referee's passport number is a must. However, I think that GP's do charge for this service and should cost you around £20-£30.

If they hesitate to give the passport details, ask them to write "Details Available on Request" on the box
