Link between work visas and PR/citizenship to be broken?

Hi

Now that we effectively have a Tory government at least as far as immigration is concerned - I was wondering whether the link between work visas (Tier 1/2) and permanent stay (ILR/PR or BC) will be broken?

I think I heard David Cameron suggest that in one of the TV debates. If true - this would have vast implications on people wanting to immigrate to the UK. if all stays are temporary and not lead to full rights including a British Passport then net migration would go down dramatically in my view.

What are your thoughts and does anyone have more details on this matter?

There are no more details. There are different ideas floating around. One of them being that most of the work related route get a 4 years visa, and after end of 4 years they go back. No extension, no nothing.
But keep in mind, these are just talks at the moment. Its going to take months for government to come up with solid proposals, as to how they want this cap to work.
