I need to apply for my first british passport and was wondering what the timelines for processing are. I would appreciate any links or info

Are you a British Citizen? If you are, the time varies throughout the year, and we are coming up to the busy time of the year, but in rough terms, about 2 to 4 weeks.

Thanks for the reply John, yes I have got my naturalisation certificate. When you say 2 - 4 weeks is that for the busy period and also accounting for the interview for a first time applicant

I guess he read your query and then answered it. So.....................

I applied by Check & Send on 30 April. Got a letter and my supporting documents back a week ago. Had my interview Tuesday morning and received my passport today. So from start to finish it took 20 days.

The timeline varies depending on where you're located, because your local CIC office is involved. It also depends on whether you have to provide fingerprints or additional information to prove residence, as those things can make it take longer.

What rubbish? Fingerprints are not required. Seems like a dodgy member. Can mods please remove their posts.

that does give me a rough idea. The check and send service specifies that there "may" be an interview so does that mean they can waive the process if they like. I have also heard about people getting it within 2 weeks as said on the check and send service has anyone experienced this.

First passport requires the interview.

2 weeks would imply simple case - no interview etc.
