My father inlaw was banned from driving for 2 years after accummulating 12 points. 6 of them for speeding and 6 for driving without insurance.
He is finishing his ban in August 2010 and is due for naturalization in december.
Does this driving ban affect him in any way?

More detail needed. In respect of each of all those convictions, when was the date of conviction, and what was the total sentence... not just the number of points.

he received 12 points and the court banned him for 24 months from driving

Wow, pretty serious offences, I'm sure they will effect naturalisation if ban only over this year. Think it's five years before they can be disregarded but chances are the FIL will reoffend before then looking at his record.

jamil05, as well as what you have already told us, was he fined as well?

did he go to court for any of these offences? If so did he also receive a fine. The speeding one is it 1 offence or 2. If 1 how fast was he going?

for the 2 speeding offences he was caught doing 11 miles and 13 miles over limit respectively.
Then for the driving while not insured the court fined him £240, and he paid £120 to police for the storage of the car because they seized it from him.
So the court sentence was:
£240 fine
12 pennalty points on his driving licence
24 months ban from driving
Driving ban is expiring 29 August 2010
and he is due for naturalization in december

Oops, I thought I read 6 speeding offences, and 6 driving without insurance offences.
Sorry, I must read posts properly, I'd better stay out of this one....

jamil05, given the seriousness of the offences, including driving without insurance, and given he was fined, in my opinion it would be a total waste of money for him to apply for Naturalisation until the sentence is "spent". That will not happen until 5 years after the date of conviction.

Totally agree with John. He must wait five years from the date of conviction. HO will never grant naturalisation with an unspent DR conviction.

does 5 years starts from date of conviction or starts when the driving ban ends?

from date of conviction
