British citizenship question

A citizenship question for the experts.
Mr "X" came to UK in 1969 but regularly visited India. In 1975 he got married in India and had 2 children born in 1974 and 1978. Both the childrens were born in India. Mr "X" became a Biritish Citizen in 1977 in the UK. His wife and 2 kids came to Britain to live with him in 1982.
Q1. on what basis Mr. "X" may have granted citizenship, having arrived in 1969? (Please note that he lived here continuously since then.)
Q2. as to the immigration status of his wife - whether she is a British citizen and, if she is entitled to citizenship, the documents she would need to show her entitlement.
Q3. what would be the childrens nationality and immigration status, whether they could be settled in the UK and whether they are entitled to British citizenship?
Q4. what evidence would be required from Mr. "X" to help the children?
Many thanks for your input.
