I am sure this would have been discussed.. but how this will affect the british citizenship for someone who would be eligible by early next year (like myself) ?

Exactly what it says - Earned citizenship law(s) passed in the time of Labour and proposed to be introduced from July 2011 will not be implemented by the present government.

So, until any other changes are proposed and announced, the laws relating to British citizenship remain the same as they are today.
