Hi

posting on behalf of a friend. Probably a stupid question but would be good to get confirmation. tried to search but my computer is playing up and it just takes me to a page can not be found page!

My friend came to UK in 2003 and got ILR in 2010 based on 5 years of WP. His wife also got ILR as his dependant having come to UK in 2009 (dependant of original WP holders do not need to have stayed a minimum period of 2/3 years before getting ILR).

My friend will qualify for Citizenship in July 2011, what happens to his wife? what is the earliest she can qualify for british citizenship?

Thanks a lot
X

Earliest is 3 years since her initial arrival, if she's the spouse of a British citizen.

Just to clarify, when does the 3 year period start?

she is married to an indian national now. Once my friend becomes British Citizen, does 3 year start from there or previous period while she was married to same person but indian citizen and leaving in UK count toward this 3 years?

Hi

3 year start from the day she landed first time in UK after marriage. It doesn't matter either person was british or indian citizenship before that. At the time she forward the case, her husband should be British citizen and 2ndly she should spend legally 3 years as 2 +1 year where 1 stands for 1 ILR year.

Cheers...
