Hi, I am querying my wife who is a pakistani citizen received her ILR in approx april 2003, and went abroad from april to august 2003 since then she has resided in the UK on a permanent basis with no further foreign trips, we are now in the process of applying for her citizenship and we have all the documents together, however in the supporting documents checklist it states that we need to provide evidence of lawful residence in the three years before application, now the pakistani passport expired in January 2007 and has since not been renewed nor was my wife in any employment or education (except for the ESOL course) so i was wondering would we have to renew her pakistani passport first or the fact the passport is expired demonstrate that she has not travelled outside UK. I have so far received conflicting info on this issue and would be very grateful for any advice. as a side note if anyone has used the nationality checking service would they be able to confirm if the passport is ok or not? thanks in advance.

Not sure about the passport as it might be needed as a proof of identity (if the passport is old, the picture is not clear etc) better to call the HO and ask. NCS might also know although it is better to check with the HO itself.

With regards to the residence requirement, then she can ask for a letter from her GP confirming regular visits to the clinic.

Perhaps she could get confirmation from her Emassy/High Commision that she had not applied for another passport. Alternatively, her SAR records should show her last date of entry into the UK.
