Hello every one,

I am new in this forum and I would appreciate if somebody could help me out. Currently I am in Tier-1 General.I am going to get my ILR in May 2012, and at the same time I am going to register my child as a British citizen (under sec 1(3) using MN1).
Our intention is to leave UK after my wife and I get our British possport in 2013 to live in our country for couple of years.
My question is: 1- what will happen to my child British citizenship if we leave UK?
I have read that childeren registered as British sitizen should apply for naturalisation when they turn to 18. for this, do they have to meet standard residental requirement (5 years)?

Once your child is registered as British then they are British. Nothing will happen to your child's citizenship if you leave the UK. There is no requirement for a child who has already been registered as a British citizen to naturalise as a British citizen when he or she is 18 as he or she will already be British.

Children successfully registered as British citizens will remain British for life. Unless they decide to renounce British citizenship after they become adults, or are deprived of their citizenship.

I guess you are referring to the following text from the UKBA website:
To be able to register as a British citizen using application form MN1 the child must be under 18 on the day we receive the application. Once the child turns 18 he or she will need to apply for registration or naturalisation as an adult.
Made me ask the same question when I read it. The wording the UKBA is using is not the best.

What they mean to say is that if the application reaches the HO before the child reaches 18, he will be able to register. Once the child turns 18 and hasn't applied for registration before he will need to apply as an adult.

Eaxctly Jambo!

also in the page 6 of MN1 guidance is:
"CHAPTER 2: WHO QUALIFIES FOR REGISTRATION?Children must be under 18 years old when the application is made. Once they reach the age
of 18 they must apply for British citizenship as adults, either by registration where they have an entitlement, or by naturalisation...."

Thanks every body for the valuble comments and explanation.
