Is it required to send passport as a identity document for naturalisation?
I read on UKBA that even UK driving licence is accepted.

Also, can I travel abroad with my passport while my naturalization application is being processed?

If you apply by NCS, you can keep your passport

Thanks. So only if I go via NCS, then I am allowed to keep the passport. if I submit directly then have to send the passport. Is that correct?

If you apply directly by post, you need to send your passport or a certified copy of it. However, to certify your passport copies by a solicitor will cost more than applying via NCS so better just go via NCS.
