Dear All,

I will become a British citizen by nauturalisation soon. However I will be moving to the far east or middle east to work in a multinational.

From what I have read from UKBA website, children born outside the UK will not get UK nationality event though one of the parent is British decent.

Can someone please clarify the matter, if I move to UAE or Russia and then my children are born over there?

Does this mean they won't get UK nationality at all?

Thanks for your response.

1. Under current laws, children born overseas to British citizen (other than by descent) father are British by descent.
2. British citizens by descent cannot pass on British citizenship to their children.

British citizenship "by descent" and "otherwise than by descent"

If you get confused by the terms, the short answer is:

- Your children born outside the UK will be British.
- Their children (your grandchildren) if born outside the UK will not be British. If born in the UK, they will be British.

This is all according to today's laws.

Thanks a lot to both of you. It makes sense now.
