Applying Citizenship from India for a new born.

Hi Guys,

My son was born feb 2012 in UK and I don't want to apply any visa for him as he is going to India this June and I am planning to bring him to UK after 2 years.

As of now I am on Tier 1 visa and I will be eligible for ILR in march 2013.

In this scenario,

1) After March 2013 can I apply British citizenship for my son who would be in India at that time? or does he needs to be present in UK for applying British citizenship ?

2) If I can't apply from India, can I bring him on visitor visa and apply citizenship over here ? which would be difficult for me.

Can you please suggest me on this.

Thanks
Suresh

Hi Jambo,

Thanks for the quick response.

Where can I find the relevant documentation / guidance on this?

Please share the information.

Thanks
Suresh

Well, there is no guidance as there is no residential requirement (in the UK) for a UK born child before applying.

See ‘receiving authority’ 6.3.1.2 (iv).
